I just bought a Thule Atlantis 1800XT roof box for our '06 and wanted to post some pictures. I researched like crazy and desperately wanted some good side view photos on a C6 Avant but all I could really find were A4's with roof boxes. There are some of the Kamei box on a C6 Avant but I don't even know if you can buy that brand here in the US. It's all Thule and Yakima here.
I was debating between a 1600 and 1800 and was searching for pictures of each on a C6 Avant but couldn't find any so I finally drove way out of my area to find a dealer that had both to test fit. As you can see, the 1800 fits just fine. The 1600 would be more compact but I figured I would get the biggest capacity I could that would fit and the price difference was only about $40.
The box is mounted on an OEM Audi rack that sits higher than Thule's solution which I prefer but I got the rack for free so I can't complain. The "claws" on the Thule don't close up completely around the crossbars but they are secure. There are notches on the box for it to nest on top of the bars.
I hope these pics help those who are in the market for a roof box. The silver compliments Atlas Gray nicely too. I got a pretty hot deal on the box. I paid $480 plus tax for it from REI. They are currently having a sale on all Thule stuff at 20% off. (Until September 7, 2009.)
