Default Tires for the S6

Just had my brakes (all 4 rotors and pads) replaced by my local Audi specialist, Griffin Motorwerke in Berkeley, CA.

I asked them to repair the driver's rear tire as I spotted a nail in it. The shop called to tell me that there were nails in both rear tires. Furthermore, the tires are almost completely worn down to the wear bars. Rather than pay to have the tires repaired, I opted to shop for a set of new tires. (Brakes and tires lasted 21K miles.)

As most of you know, the C6 S6 has an oddball sized tire at 265/35-19. Furthermore, prices in this size usually run north of $300.

I found some tires at a very reasonable price at www.treadepot.com. I just ordered a set of 4 Toyo Proxes T1R tires at a price of $217 each. I also purchased the road hazard warranty for $26.28 per tire. Furthermore, an instant rebate of $25 will be instantly applied to purchases over $300.

Total price with shipping to my mechanic's shop came out to $1,054.32.

These tires should outperform the stock Contis which are, IMHO, over-rated and over-priced. However, I fully expect the Toyos to progressively become louder as they wear down. That's a trade-off I'm willing to accept.

Tires should be here in about a week, and I should have them mounted up by the end of the month. I'll post a review as soon as put some miles on them.

They finished 8th out of 11 in Car and Driver's Tire comparison test. I don't know if the 7 tires that finished in front of them come in your size.

That article is 5 years old and I know of some tires in it that have gone through design changes.

The tires finisheed 6th in 1010 tires reviews and 11th in CR. Again I don't know if the higher finishing tires come in your size.

I have been using the Proxes T1Rs on my 2005 Corvette C6 and they have been incredible. I have put about 15K miles on them and they were to replace OEM GY F1 run flats which were the worst. The Toyos have been excellent with very low road noise and great grip in dry and wet conditions. I am very happy with them. If you go to the corvetteforum there are many using the toyos and reviews are good. My Goodyears ran throught tread in 20K, the Toyos are 15K in and barely gone through tread.

Default Thanks for the feedback.

Finding a tire in the proper OEM size has proven to be the biggest challenge.

Fortunately I won't be driving these tires at the limit about 99% of the time behind the wheel If and when I do though, I hope I have the same exact experience as dekaran!

Yeah, I saw that too and almost prematurely wet myself with excitement when I saw the PRICE! LOL! I told the same story at the shop, and the owner said, "That's like coming into the pits needing a tire change and the pit crew says, "Sorry, all we have left are rain tires". LOL!

You can always run with 275 and it is cheaper than 265.

Yeah, I thought about that as well but wanted to stay with the OEM size. I might try that next time. I was actually thinking of just moving up to 20" wheels and tires, but it's just not in the budget right now
