I have noticed that my car develops a vibration at when travelling around 80-85 MPH (140 KPH).

The car is due its 60K service, and the rear brake pads need replacing. Is this likely to be a result of the wheels being out of balance or something more serious

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be out of balance wheels.

I agree it sounds like the tires. Find a shop with a Hunter Road Force GSP 9700 balancer with StraightTrak Lateral Force Measurement.

If you didn't change wheels to cheaper non-forged then it's most likely a balance or tire issue...take it someplace where they spin balance on the car if possible.

I was just asking landjb4u, there is a quality issue with the F1s. Uneven wear and extremely noisey.

Had the same issue with my previous A6. Wheels were balanced but didn't fix the problem. I had a four wheel optical alignment done and I recall it was out by some margin at the rear. Afterwards, it drove vibration free.

Same problem with the Q7 I picked up a couple of weeks ago. Had the dealer do the alignment this time and it too is now vibration free....does pull to the left now though...
