Went for 25,000 mile with A6 Avant, then test drove S5

I think you forgot to put a winky smiley after that.....
Unless the S5 manual says otherwise (and it would be the exception), every Audi manual I have ever seen has a portion devoted to breaking in the engine.

whomever is buying the S5s that are out there....
will probably get some cars that have some miles on them--and they'll probably get a good discount.
i think Audi enthusiasts will be buying them (different target market than a BMW or Benz customer). they'll order the car in and break it in themselves.
after all most of the time i've read drive it like you stole it for breaking it in.
when i test drive cars, i'm very careful with it--it's not mine.

In the case of the R8, probably. In regular production cars, no. Not enough time, space, or
equipment for a mass production model. Apparently tolerances are much tighter and there is less fuss involved, but some breaking in is still required, as per the manual. Nothing like old cars with several oil changes and head torquings before 5000 miles.

If breaking it in properly didn't matter, they would just save some ink and pages in the manual;-)
That whole Motoman controversy might apply to small air cooled race bike motors meant to last a weekend, but I am not sure about much larger, water cooled car engines meant to go for 200K.

"i think driving like you stole it varies a big difference to us"...
than to some jamoke 8 ^)
We'd get up to 4500 and back off. We wouldn't hit giant potholes, take it up to redline, and beat the thing.

I stand by my comment. Its the height of disrespect for the eventual owner.
Would you want to buy a new car that had been abused by someone out skylarking?
By the way, with just 15 posts and no email address, you're quite the "brave" one throwing rants around, aren't you?

Sadly I have been on a number of test drives where people weren't so respectful. That is why
I eventually came up with the hairy feeling, but actually mechanically benign intro, as that would cow most folks into driving a bit more gently on the rest of the test;-)

no one wants a beater, that's for sure April.....
i like cars too much in general to beat them.
i test drove a Z4 M, and it was a bit gut wrenching for the first few shifts...it was a Z4...lol
