Default What prices are people getting on 07 A6?

I am still trying to decide between the 3.2 A6 quattro and the new Lexus GS350 AWD.

Edmunds still lists sticker as the TMV on the 2007 A6--is that consistent with others experience? It just doesn't seem like a hot enough selling car to be commanding sticker even at the beginning of the model year.

Any thoughts?

Default Priced Off Invoice

I ordered a 2007 A6 Avant in May (delivered 7/31) at $400 over invoice; this was and remains a very good deal. I have seen others at $500 over on ordered vehicles.

I would have a hard time paying sticker for a car that is not "hot", like a Saturn Sky or whatever. I had over $9000 knocked off my '06 3.2Q at the end of model year.

i had $12k knocked off my new 06 A6 Avant -- not sure there are any differences between 06 and 07 at least not $12k worth...

Default Depends what you want, and what dealer allocation is like for your area. We can tell you anything,

but the reality boils down to you and your dealer.

See the service manager and ask them from whom they would buy a car. If not that, call the sales manager and ask for an appointment with an Audi Brand Specialist. Every dealer has at least one of these factory trained salespeople, and a good one can go through the entire car and show you the pros and cons (yes, they get training in the competition too).

The GS starts out a tad more expensive, and the TMV suggests that you'll spend an extra $800 in dealer profit if you spring for the Lexus due to brand cachet. Of course most things are standard on the Lexus.

Things like heated rear seat, split fold-down rear seats, rear power points, cargo tie-downs, CD MP3 playback, 16 vs 13 cu ft trunk, and an inch or so extra for most interior seating dimensions are found on the Audi.

A friend just rented an IS350 for driving school. What an unresponsive turd that was! Yes, it was quick in a straight line, but he was pining for his V8 S4 (and he's not that much of car nut or Audi fan) back at home. The electronics on that car absolutely prevented him from getting remotely near the handling envelope. Sure, the IS isn't the GS, but then the IS is supposed to be the sporty one. So if you like to drive, the Lexus may not be your cup of tea.

You're both buying off the lot at year end with factory incentives. Not applicable here I think.

Default Lexus doesn't want to do anything off of MSRP...

maybe 500...

That was my experience when trying to trade in my 06 4Runner--even when dealing with a "Customer Advocate" because I was trading in after my stroke in May.

Default While your case was special, in other cases, why should they? They have a high demand product.

Time and time again, I've seen people who paid full pop be very happy with the overall experience, while people obsessed with price often give lower marks for the exact same experience in all other aspects. I think because one allows you to focus on the car, while the other is spent under a great deal of anxiety and stress.

Default Thanks for your thoughts, April.

Actually, contrary to popular belief, the A63.2quatt with Nav/convenience/premium/cold weather comes in around 54K so is a bit more expensive that the GS350 AWD, similarly equipped (52K).

I agree with most of your other thoughts (except the part about MP3 compatibility, it is actually a little better on the Lex, which plays MP3 or WMA, even plays DVD on the Nav system as long as you are stopped).

Both excellent cars, just different. The GS has more pull it a straight line, esp at speed (304 HP) but does not feel as nimble in the curves as the Audi. (I have driven both).

Interiors/materials, etc are impeccable in both. Long term resale/reliability probably superior (on average) with the the Lexus.

Decisions, decisions.

Default their cars may have some nice attributes, but they don't command full MSRP....

especially under the auspices of Toyota that have a "special advocacy" program for their customers that have special needs. It's a bunch of bull. I expect to pay for a product, but I don't expect arrogance from a sales person. They presented under such false pretences it was an insult.

Their product isn't that good IMO...if I thought it met my needs, I would have purchased it.

In contrast, the Mercedes dealer down the road had a car that met my needs, had an excellent demeanor, and the deal was done in half an hour without puffed up bullfrog arrogance.

I still like Audis, not the dealers.

85 miles to get good service.

BTW, part of the reason why I dumped the 4Runner was for its poor cabin filtration. I specifically asked questions regarding Lexus's system and the sales clown didn't know. But I did spot him press recirc right when we fired up the car for a drive.
