Default When to change spark plugs

When I was getting my 55K service done recently, the dealer didn't change the spark plugs, noting that the 2006 Scheduled Maintenance Intervals show "55K only: except 1.8T, 3.0L, 3.2L VR6, 6.0L"

They are saying 35K and 75K are the intervals at which the plugs need to be changed.

I've read some threads here that suggest 55k is the right interval - The service schedule is dated 10/29/08.

Is there a difference between the 3.2L V6 and the 3.2L VR6? Can someone explain the differences, please?

I know that the 4.2 has its plugs done at 55k miles.

He is correct. The 2006's (for some reason) are replaced at 35k then every 40k or 3 years after the initial service.

Default plugs

I do know that when I had the 35K service done on our 2005 A6 3.2, they replaced the plugs... and it wasnt on the maintenance schedule in my book that came with the car. (I remember b/c they had to _order_ the plugs and for some dumb reason it took 4 days). Seems like the svc schedule was somehow changed after these things were made.

And to answer your other question...there is a huge difference between the 3.2 VR6, and the 3.2 in our cars. For one, our cars have a direct injection high compression 90 degree V6 engine. The 3.2 VR6 is a narrow angle engine that is a derivitive of the 2.8 VR6 and is primarily used in the VW R32, and the TT if I'm not mistaken. And they have a lower compression as well as a traditional fuel injection system. Completely different animals.

Kemer! Thanks for that information - I think that sometimes even the Service Advisors forget the difference between the two engines.

Thanks as well to everyone who posted a reply - I appreciate it!
