Why is cold air coming out pillar vent even with heat on?

Same here
In fact, my wife (who sits in the back with my 5 year old son) once yelled at me "Why are you blowing cold air on us back here." We now keep those side vents closed

I had this problem yesterday, my daughter was in back saying she was cold, the center vent was warm but both pillar vents were cold. Has anyone found a fix for this?

is adjusted by the air mix door allowing the correct proportion of cold air (A/C) and hot air (heater core) to come through.
But it's wierd. Sometimes I even get hot air blowing out from the side vents (but ice-cold air from the center and rear vents) on a hot summer day even when the A/C is on full.
