Disagree. People looking into performance lines of the model would not be put away by the noise produced at 8K RPMs if it neted extra 90 HP. No one I know including myself bought the S6 because it was quiet. In fact, it is intentionally made to be louder than the S8 through its exhaust.

If the S6 was noisy and (thus) tiring to drive over a long distance then sales would struggle, likewise if an R8 simply sounded and behaved like a saloon car it too would fail to attract sales no matter how good it handles or looks. As AofC RR points out the installation of the 4.2 litre engine in the RS4 was very different to the installation in the A6 despite being essentially the same engine so this is not something new nor is is it unique to Audi.

put it this way. You have a RS6, and an R8. Why would they make regular S6 make as fast as those two.
Also, S6 was never intended to be "extreme sport" thats whats RS6 for.

its just top of the line while keeping bit of advantage over regular 4.2 V8.

I read somewhere there is a ton loads of different parts in R8 V10 vs S6 V10, camshafts, crankshafts, fuel, air intake, tranny for sure, software, more aggresive timing, higher RPMs.... theres no quick mod to open it up.

Boston is largely correct. Contrary to what 90% of people say, the S6 v10 is not a :ambo engine. They use price discrimination to maximize revenue and allow for upgrade options commensurate with the amount each person can spend. The A6 is cheapest offering. Then S6, ?R6?, ?RS6?, Lambo, etc I think is the offering. The S6 is therefore detuned from the Lambo version of the v10. Different crankshaft (split instead of flat) prevents high rpm. It's retarded but the excuse is it allows for a smoother torque output, which is true but not important to anyone IMO. My thread about it is here: https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a6-.../#post25701619 TLDR: you can't fix the problem. You want to play you gotta pay. Even so I dream some entrepreneur starts selling a conversation kit on ebay.
