Wider rims vs wider tires
Related to my other rim/tires post. I'm primarily looking for a more 'aggressive'/wider stance. At risk of showing my extreme tire tech ignorance...it seems to me that wider tires can get the job done as the 'simplest' option. I'm probably oversimplifying and missing something.

A friend put wider tires on factory rims once. You might be able to go one step up max. My friend ended up GIVING the tires away after a harrowing incident where the car was uncontrollable due to extra flex in the sidewall.
That car was a mint 1986 Mustang GT. Rather than risk his ride, off they came. The car was changing lanes and there was a dip which caused the tire to flex and that was a scary ride after that. Many corrections were involved to get the car back under control as the sidewalls kept flexing and then springing back causing the car to go in unintended directions.
They also make the car look ridiculous as the tires don't fit the rims when you go too big.
