Default Yet another MMI & Navigation Question..

Hi all,
I'm an Audi newbie - I've tried reading through the threads to get my answers but I'm still not clear..

1) I downloaded the latest 2010 Nav Maps for North America and burned to a disc. Do I need to update the MMI before running this disc?

2) Where can I get the discs for the MMI update?

I've got a 2006 4.2 by the way..
Thanks!!

First thing 2010 are not the latest map, 2011 are the latest. I don't think many people will help you because the majority of people here buy the maps legally + it can harm your car using not original Audi maps. Second yes you will need to update you MMI to the latest for 2010 and 2011 maps..4.6.10 are the latest MMI update. You can buy the CD from here but you will need the part number genuineaudiparts.com. And follow instruction before the updates or you have to expend like $5,000 in a new MMI...

MMI update has nothing to with your downloaded DVD. In order to run 2010 map, your MMI will do some updates (already included with your download). Insert your illegally acquired DVD, updates will perform, and your 2010 should run; mine did. BTW my MMI is 41.40

wow. So much mis-information in one post.

Audia6s is correct. No MMI update is required for the navigation. Any navigation software update required is included on the Navigation DVD.

I also thought the mmi update was separate because the dealer charged me for "tug" updates to get it to 41 something so I could use my iPod and I am running the last years nav disk that definitely should have had full ami support.

The DVD for nav something has updates but they only apply to the nav unit, but some features that new navigation disk has only work with a few MMI version.

Audia6s: The dealer also confirmed what you said. No MMI update needed to run newer Navigation discs.

Sounds like I can order MMI discs from genuineaudiparts.com? From some of the posts I've read on, it can take hours to complete? Yet the dealer says it only takes 30 minutes.. Why the big difference?

I completed the MMI upgrade yesterday to 41.40. I had the original MMI on my 2005 4.2, I think it was 11.0. The update went smooth. I left the car running as I did some gardening, periodically checking in on the update. The first update took about 30 minutes, the second only about 5 minutes. I followed the instructions found here http://uberlame.com/a6_tsb/MMI/MMI%2...0procedure.pdf. No noticeable difference other than the legal screen being gone, which alone was worth the time and money.
