Is the 2013 Ford Fusion an A7 design ripoff or just a pretty darn sexy car?

I'm glad to see an American car company building something that doesn't look like complete crap. Looks are one thing but then you have interior, fit & finish, handling, etc so the jury's still out. In general competition is a good thing.
Sorry to veer off topic but here are some shot of what the 2014 Mustang might look like:

I agree. I really like the front end of this car though. The headlights are brilliant. That front end reminds me of a lot of different fantastic cars through the years including the A7 (on the lower front). I think it is a great step forward for ford design. But thats where it ends for me. The straight line across the side is not interesting and the rear looks like a lot of other cars besides the A7 to me. Plus, I have been waiting for a sexy hatchback for a very long time and finally got it in the A7.

One last thing about the later posts... I own a modern furniture store. We represent many top Italian lines that work with the top designers in the world. They create and figure out a way to use the most innovative materials and manufacturing techniques. They really go the extra mile to actually build the machines etc... that can actually make what the designer envisions at great cost.
Then a year later everyone, I mean every one (CB2, Crate and Barrel, DWR...) copies these designs (not as well and with lesser materials and poor proportions). That is just the way it is. Even with Fords success it is no way an A7. The lines and proportions are just a bit off and you know the interior is not going to be nearly as nice and it will stink due to off-gassing from using lesser materials.
