Interesting! I am switching to Audi next year when my BMW X5 diesel lease ends. I was looking at the S6 and maybe now a diesel. Love the torque! Wow and that MPG certainly beats my 22 mpg on the X5!
Wonder if Audi offers an Eco credit like BMW ?

technical question, if torque is more to acceleration and horsepower to top speed (supposedly)
Why the diesel versions are still slower than the gas version in acceleration?? because the 406lb-ft is a LOT around the same torque I am getting with my A7 tune and still doing more than 6 seconds to 60 mph.

I have my BMW X5 Diesel and the engine noise is too high... I wouldn't buy diesel anymore.

By noisy, do you mean in the cabin or outside?

Inside also it's louder than a GAS powered vehicle and outside it sounds like a u-haul truck.

It is very loud on acceleration, but I haven't noticed any extra noise at speed. I, too, am on the fence about another diesel. I have to wait and 'hear' it for myself!

According to the press release the quoted mileage is for the A8.
Any idea or experience with the highway mileage for the A7 with the 6 cyl TDI? I assume non Americans have a good idea.

I've driven this engine in an A6 in Europe. It's very quick in acceleration and will do 155 MPH. It's an awesome engine, particularly with 7-sp DSG transmission!
