My 2018 A7 has the 'Closing Aid on the Doors' as the owner's manual calls it. I have also seen this feature referred to as soft close and self close doors. I have gotten quite used to gently pulling the door to the near-closed position and then letting the closing aid do the rest of the work. But, I don't always remember to tell passengers about it, and most passengers slam the door. My question is, is there any harm to the self closing mechanism if someone slams the door closed?

Fortunately, no harm to the self closing mechanism or the latch/lock assembly.
I have added this feature to my A7, it was a lot of fun installing it and I was (and still am) quite proud of my achievement.
However, I am with you, it is very hard to get others not to slam the door shut. Even my wife (who is in the car regularly and has been told/shown/explained this umpteen times) ignores this wonderful feature.

C'est la vie!

SCarGuy, fkaufman -
Thanks for your responses. It's good to know that this is one less thing to worry about. I guess I would have been surprised to learn that the Audi engineers didn't consider the door slamming possibility, but every time that someone has slammed one of the doors on my A7, I have wondered about this. I searched and didn't see this addressed on the forum. It's comforting to know that no damage will come of it.
