High body work costs

High body work costs
My wife recently put a big dent on the right rear door of her A7 (about a foot long). We had a similar dent on one of our previous cars repaired by a mobile repair service that did a great job for $380. It turned out such repair can't be done on this car because it's aluminum. Because it is so thin, it cannot be bent or push back without eventually cracking. I took it to a very reputable and high-end body shop and it cost almost $3000 to replace the door panel. While insurance covered most of the costs, we still had to pay the $500 deductible.
Not only is it an expensive car to purchase, it is an expensive car to maintain.

I just had a fist sized dent repaired in the right rear fender by a paintless dent removal guy who was awesome. Cost me about $400 and it's virtually undetectable.

I'm guessing it depends on the repair shop/repair being done--I had two 1" gashes repaired on my hatch (embarrassing garage door incident x2) for $140... Completely unnoticeable.
To that end, of course this car's gonna be expensive to repair, considering what you had done. Parts aren't readily available, thus they more than likely have to manufactured/packaged/shipped in single quantities. That's ALWAYS going to cost you a little bit more.
