The 2015-2016 3.0T are rated approximately 30 horsepower higher than the 2014 A7. Does anyone know if the increase in hp is a function of engine tuning or have the engines been "modified" from the factory ?
I don't know, but I'd bet money it's tuning. It has no more peak torque, so all they had to do was hold the boost a few hundred more RPMs and tweak timing and fuel delivery.
Yeah tuning mostly I think I read somewhere, examples are injectors delivering fuel at a higher pressure, newer coating on the piston rings causing less friction blah blah, slight stronic gearbox improvement. Mostly just mapped higher?
They like to keep these things so damn secret. I want to find more in depth info but can't. erWin is the best place for diy but I want info on changes
Given the V6 is the same engine that is used in the S5 and that has been at 333 BHP, I think that they are just using the same tuning in the A6/A7 as they always have in the S5.
Scary enough...Audi responded once that the heads "may be" different and the second time they called me back, they thought it is only a tuning issue.
Audi of America was no help whatsoever and referred me to the dealer.
The boost controller starts to open at 4500 rpm. Basically kills the top end of the motor. Easy to get a bunch more power out of it. The problem for Audi is that it then gets into the same power to weight ratio as the S7.
Here's a good graph
