Is the "AD" cable this one?: 4F0 051 510 AD
If so, it was my understanding that it will pass video and album art as does the red grommet 30-pin AMI cable with an iPhone 4s or earlier. Have you tried video? It's surprising you're not getting album art. (I assume you have one of the iPhone 5 models with the lightning connector).
What is your MMI software version? 0609 or 0715-2?

Yes, tried it on video, per my previous message "no cover art from iTunes, Beats, Spotify, Pandora or video from iTunes, Vudu, Netflix, Amazon."

In comparing to the older 30-pin Apple cable (from what I can see) there are TWO less pins. Given that I get no video no matter what and that it has two less pins, it would seem to NOT have the pins for video.
People originally through the AC was no video, while the AD was video. Which always seemed odd since the pricing at Audi Germany was the same (or very close). They confirmed to me the other day that the AC is for older cars 2007-2011, while the AD is for newer cars 2012-2015. Now the AC may still not support video, perhaps due to MMI differences, however it also appears the AD doesn't as well.
