So I have an older 30gig iPod and the blue grommet mmi cable. When I plug in the iPod, it works. If I turn the car off and back on, I receive the following error on the mmi screen:
"The medium does not contain playable files"
I have to unplug and replug for it to work. Anyone else have this issue?

No guarantees, but try this:
- First, make sure AMI cable is firmly seated.
- With the iPod connected, reboot the MMI (press Menu+Center ****+Upper right function button at the same time and release).
- If that doesn't work, do a hard reboot of the iPod (assuming it's a Classic)

- Slide the Hold switch, the switch at the top left of the iPod, to "on" (so it's showing the orange). Then slide it back to hide the orange.
- Hold down the Menu and center buttons at the same time.
- Hold them for 6-8 seconds, or until the Apple logo shows up on the screen.
- Let go of the buttons at this point. The Classic is restarting.

Still having the issue after iPod and MMI reset. I read at one point that wiping the iPod and starting fresh might fix it. I'm not sure that it bothers me that much.

I have had the exact same problem. Spent a lot of time researching this. Best guess is that the "older" IOS version that runs on the older iPods is not 100% compatible. I could never resolve it. I then plugged in an iPod touch (newer IOS), and my iPhone 5 (newest IOS) and they do NOT exhibit this problem.
So, optimal solution is to buy an iPod that runs on IOS 5 or 6 or higher, I would surmise. I know...not exactly what you wanted to hear I am sure : /

I have a different problem. My ipod will work, but the sound does not go through the cars speakers, instead it goes through the ipod's internal speakers. I pull the connector and push it back in and all is well. This happens very frequently. Had my MMI unit replaces but I am still having issues.
