I thought it was mentioned that it was a COLD AIR intake?

No - it's a ram air. If it's REALLY cold outside, you could call it a CAI :-) If I said that somewhere, it was after a few too many.

A CAI would be the next level. Hard to believe there's any more power lurking in there but I guess there is.

It does get the majority of its air from the existing Audi cold air duct but a portion comes in from the engine bay. It does add to the supercharger sound having the circular gap. To minimize hot air, I added some air conditioner foam insulation to slow the engine bay air but allow the sound to escape.

Another update...

It's finally spring in Chicago and I've been doing a bunch of aggressive urban driving. I just finished an "all city" tank of gas and it wasn't pretty: 12.9 mpg.... either it's the tune, or the tune is making me drive like a madman.

I'm curious as to whether others with tuned A7s (or A6s for that matter) have seen a decline in their non-highway mpg.

The tune is making you drive like a madman, have the GIAC tune and coming from Las Vegas to San Diego I had like 29mpg, more than advertised without the tune.

I'm still getting 28-29 mpg on the highway, it's just around town that it's gone down.....however, I fear that you are right (about the madman part)...
