I did a test. Had the music playing from the SD card and I shut the car down.

Turned my phone off and restarted the car.It was quiet for a few seconds, with a message in the display that the device was not yet available. After a little while it started playing and kept on playing without a pause. I then turned the phone on, the contacts did download and during all that time the music kept playing from the SD card without any interruption.
