Premium vs Regular Gas for the A7

This is inaccurate. 91 is the minimum fuel Audi requires on the A7.
Will it run on 87? Sure, in a pinch. As in, you have no gas left, and the only station near you has 87 only. A few gallons and light driving, and you'll be fine. But the ecu is mapped around 91 as the minimum requirement. Not only will power and torque be reduced, but so will fuel economy. The sticker in the fuel door gives the recommended fuel to be used.. The only cars in the Audi portfolio designed around 87 octane are the A3, Q3, TT and A7 hybrid

From the 2012 Audi A7 owners manual. Please note that it does not say 91 REQUIRED.

I have a 2012 A7 and always buy 93 octane premium at Costco here in NC. It’s considered Top Tier gas meaning that is just as good as any of the top brands. It,does have a max of 10% ethanol and have been using it for years with zero issues. In some occasions I have had to put regular and I do notice lower mpg. The difference in price does negate the difference.
