Default Removed the rear seat

As you can see from the photo, the rear center plastic is held by the 2 screws, which are attached to a metal plate. In my opinion, it is very easy to replace the center plastic with a 3rd cushion seat - given the replacement has the same bolting configuration.

The seat frame is made entirely by copper, which are soldered together like the usual water pipes.

Cool! First thing I did was save the picture.

Were the screws in the back?

Do you have any shots of the rear with the seat out?

Why did you remove the seat?

Was it hard to remove?

The frame is more likely brass, bronze or copper plated steel. Copper is really soft and would bend easily.

Full of questions!

The rear seat is not held by any screws. Simply pull up, and pull forward.

I wanted to remove the rear seat so I could remove the side trim near the hatch - was chasing after some popping noise.

In term of the actual material used for the frame, it sure feels like some sort of copper alloy, very much like the copper piping that we commonly see. Maybe brass (copper + zinc)? Maybe something else?

I think figuring out how to add a 3rd seatbelt will be the trick.

The center belt uses the two bolts the hold the inner belts in place. I don't think that the center set has a shoulder strap.

That would be a great modification. Can't wait to see the final results.

I am interested to see if someone has successfully completed this mod as well. When I was speaking with the sales guy prior to buying my car he did tell me that even though it's an option for the 2013 that the seat would fit the 2012. However when I was talking with the parts guy at Audi about this yesterday he said there's really no guarantee and that it would not be returnable if I ordered it and it didn't fit because it was a special order part. I'm up for giving it a shot, I just need to track down some more info.

The strap for the center seat is a combination seat/shoulder safety belt just like the other four seats. It comes out of the top of the right rear seatback. So, from left to right, the top of the right rear seat has the lever to fold the seat down, two head restraint slots for the right seat head restraint, the center safety belt slot, and two head restraint slots for the center seat head restraints. All six holes have the same matching plastic molding. There is also a chrome tether anchor for child seats above the center seat, just as there is above the left and right rear seats.

The center seat has a smaller head restraints. It's lower to allow for visibility out the rear glass. Since I rarely have passengers in the rear seats, I removed all three rear head restraints and it opened up the rear window a lot.
