I tested GOOGLE MAPS, Google Search, WIFI works, 3G symbol on dash appears, everything works fine!!

Here is what you have to do:

If you have an ATT plan with a tablet device for 9.99 per month, you can convert that to a regular size sim card, the bigger one of them all to use to insert on the Audi.

1- Go to ATT store and get a new regular large sim card that fits on the Audi slot. You might have to pay for it (20 bucks)
2-Then you get out of the store and call ATT 611, do not let the store activate the sim card for you, because they wont be able to.
3-Tell the ATT Rep to activate your ipad line to the new large SIM card you bought at the store. Make up a story that you dont have the ipad anymore and you have a car radio with the IMEI number of the Audi.
4-Give them IMEI number and the new ATT large sim card number so they can activate it.
5-Once they tell you its done then go to the Audi and insert the sim inside.
6-Go to Telephone on MMI controls and choose Settings
7-Once you are in settings then go to Data Connection and then Connection Settings
8-Make sure the APN reads "Broadband"
9-Leave user name and password blank with Authentication set to "Normal"
10- Thats it and then you wait till you see 3G light up on the lower right of the screen.
11- Its super fast with ATT...

PM me if you have any questions.....

Enjoy!!!!
I wanted to try the AT&T now at 3G option with my iphone 5s sim card today, I used an adapter because the iphone uses Nano sim and the car standard sim.
Sadly (for me) the service is still only 2G, the MMI populated "isp.cingular" in the APN settings and never worked, I changed it to "phone" and then it worked.
In order to follow your instructions I changed the APN to broadband and it never worked, only with "phone" it works.
So basically you got a sim card for tablets and that is why you are using the "broadband" APN, but the one for smartphones is stuck with 2G.

Default AT&T only 2G

Hi,

I am new to this forum but not to Audi and have a question specifically related to the AT&T 2G versus 3G topic.

I traded up from my A6 to a perfect 2012 A7 and have easily moved from T-Mobile to AT&T pay as I go to test out the Google functions and see if it is really worth it..

AT&T Tech assigned an IMEI from a random iPad I am on line with all MMI and voice commands working as are the "news and info" features and WiFi. However, my AT&T signal only ever displays 2G and not 3G. When I replace it with my T-Mobile SIM it immediately shows 3G again so I know it's not my car.

Any ideas as to why I am not picking up 3G with AT&T when I am with T-Mobile? Surely it isn't because I opted to try "pay as you go" rather than prepaid?

Thank you in advance,

No, it's because 2012 & 2013 models don't support the 3G bands used by AT&T. Now that T-Mobile is reallocating frequencies in many areas there's a good possibility that you'll see service degradation on their network as well.

This thread (https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a7-...oming-2879633/) indicates that for at least some owners, Audi is going to replace their cellular modem with (what is likely) the one from the 2014 & 2015 models so that you can get 3G on AT&T.
