Hi guys,

I've got a 2019 A7 that I've owned since August, since then I've had it back and forth to the main dealer due to a ticking / rattle noise in the steering wheel, it's driving me mad and most recently they replaced the steering wheel and the noise hasn't gone, I'm also quite sure they replaced the airbag too on account of it being really clean :-) Does anyone have any ideas what this could be? I can hear it over my music and I've uploaded a short video to YT, the engine is just idling and it's generating quite a bit of noise. You can agitate it by tapping the steering wheel even when the car isn't started, so I'm guessing it's not electrical, here is the video:

It sounds like something is vibrating and hitting something else. The plastic steering column hitting the area around it?

I have exactly the same noise, it's driving me crazy. For me, it only happens in a certain RPM range (1300 to about 1550 RPM) and only with a warmed-up car. Same here. I have a 2018 Audi A7 340 hp and I have exactly the same issue. Doesn't happen when the car is cold. Went to the garage for 2 times already (once they completely dismantled the steering column but they couldn't find anything). If anything pops up, let us know because my only recourse for this annoying issue, is to play loud music.

They have replaced the entire steering column. Fortunately, it was still under warranty because it was quite an intervention. During the test drive yesterday, I didn't hear the rattling. I hope this has resolved it, and I never hear that ticking sound again.

Here's an update from me. After replacing the steering column, the noise was gone, unfortunately, it came back during a long drive. So, the steering column clearly wasn't the problem. (While I had told the dealer it could also be the airbag, they hadn't replaced it). Now, finally, after much nagging and convincing, they replaced the airbag unit two weeks ago. And sure enough, the ticking/rattling is no more. I'm super happy it's gone, but it was a nightmare how long it took to find it. Thanks to this forum and your posts, I figured it out, so thank you very much! cheers
