Default $&*()$&*@(#)! Broke iced over door handle

I very gently tried to open my door this morning after a night of freezing rain and snow. The handle broke free, but did not open the door. I made it in through the back door, and got the driver's door open from the inside, but then the door would not close. I let the car warm for a while, and now the door will close, but the outside handle only partially releases the door. The inside handle functions properly. Any idea what I've done?

Default For the next guy-if you have the heated door locks then simply lift or attempt to lift the

handle once then wait for about 30 seconds and the lock will thaw.
this should create enough heat to free surrounding parts.
The down side is you have to stand in the cold waiting.
Many will be unaware of this function in their cars.

Default My 97 does the same thing sometimes when really cold, then gets better when it is warmed.

My theory is that ice gets on the parts inside and makes the spring return (or other bits) jam up. I have found that pulling the handle and letting it snap back often allows me to close the door right away.

Default There was no Cold Package option for the 2001 A8/S8

For that model year,

PPX: "Premium Package" option (which I don't have) includes the ski sack and sun shades.

Q1A: "Heated Front Seats" option (which I do have)

Am I lucky ... or not?
