I called Direct Tire, a well known shop in the Boston area and they said that the A8L alignment would cost $200. Why so much, they made it sound like it was a more complicated or involved alignment. Any info?

You do have to do a four wheel alignment and you need to provide specs.....or just bring it to the dealer for less.

It is a qwa-zi involved process if your car has ESP. The need to have a VAG-COM or something that can re-adjust your steering wheel. Without it you would probably be back to there shop within a week wanting to kill somebody. you should find a local specialist or possibly your audi dealership. I wouldnt pay over $150 and even thats a stretch.

maximum I was quoted at 505 in Nashville, TN is $60.98, and they're the local small-time experts on German car suspention. The local Audi dealership charges in excess of $350

all the spec on the computer when they pulled it up. they did a 4 wheel alignment and all went well. the chamber set up ( I think could of been caster my memory is shot..) is a pain they have to move the whole assembly because there is no adjustment.. total cost $79

The entire subframe is shifted until left and right camber is equal. This wasn't done in your case, but this step should only be skipped if camber was OK as-is.
Caster is not adjustable at all.
