Default The $9 A8 Grill Upgrade for '97-'99's

So I saw that somebody else did this with their A6, so I did it with my A8! Looks really nice and takes about 30 minutes.

First, go buy some of this stuff at PepBoys, $9 for 25 feet, share some with some friends!

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/31455/escapa8_applying_grill_strip.jpg">

Then just pop your lower grill off, just kinda force it out on the bottom, do the outsides first, then go to the middle. You'll then have to pop the top out, if you have a plate like I do, pull on it a little so you clear it, or just unscrew your plate, unscrew the two screws that hold the thing to the bumper and take it out of the way, that would probably be easiest.

Then clean your grill, remove the bugs, dry it and put the chrome molding on it, you'll have to use an exacto knife to cut it at the top on an angle to fit nicely. It's "U" shaped and just fits right over the grill.

Then to reinstall, stick the top part in first, holding the plate out a little, stick it back up in there (I would just take the plate holder off, but didn't have a phillips head screwdriver) and click it back in place. Simple!

Here's some before and after pictures:

Paul, do you have enough left for under your headlights?

Looks great! I was skeptical too, but it really came out nice.

Default I've done the same thing (A4) and...

keep in mind that after a few thousand miles of driving that trim will be in pretty bad shape. I loved the way mine looked, but it got too chewed up through winter and spring, so bought a new lower grille.

Default I figure it will wear out in time

It does look really nice, but like anything, it's gonna get beat up on the front of the car, good thing it's only $9. Good thing about it is that it won't hurt anything, it's just mounted on the plastic grill.

I do have enough to do around the headlights, but don't think it would look/go there. This stuff is "U" shaped, so I just dont' think it will work.

Might actually help protect the grill's edge.
