00 A8 would not start now i have a code 18017 p : 1609
she would not kick over this morning. so i waited a couple hours tried again and kicked over with the help of me giving it gas. i have a piece of crap scanner what i make of this code. what would have caused it? it says crash shut down activated.

I use...
the shareware VWTOOL and free version of VAGCOM with a $12 cable from Autonostics. A coworker recently ordered from them and has not received his cable, so maybe Autonostics has closed up shop. They're available on eBay, too.
Many have problems with the USB version. Mine are 'serial' cables.
OBDTOOL also offers an interface cable for around $65 IIRC.
One of the Audiworlders has graciously hosted the VWTOOL files here:<ul><li><a href="http://edsaudi12v.com/audi/vwtool.zip">http://edsaudi12v.com/audi/vwtool.zip</a</li></ul>

I just posted another similar request and then I found your thread. I ordered from Autonostics but did not get anything back (item or responses).
Do you have an update from your friend? I suspect these folks operated from overseas, and no more.

he's in the same boat you are....no response. Guess we may need to start trying the
eBay units from Hong Kong or the more expensive OBDTOOL units.
