My local dealer quoted about $400 for the tranny fluid change (which, they don't recommend, of course...) stating that the 'lifetime fluid' is really, really expensive. Does this price sound about right?

That's full retail + on everything involved, from what I've seen.

I paid 324 for mine but they did such a good job that I got a new transmission when they were done

I paid $168 ($15/quart plus labor and tax) to change the fluid ONLY. If they are going to clean the pan and replace the screen (a.k.a. filter) then the price you got quoted fits my experience of dealer costs. If its just fluid drain, your getting charged too much.
