I'm finally back in town for a while, my ebay $20.00 VAG-COM tool was here waiting for me when I arrived. The first thing I did was recode my tranny according to the wisdom of the listers (code 00011). What a great difference, I can hold 1st, the car is more responsive, it downshifts easier with less pressure on the gas pedal, etc. etc.
The car feels like its 1000 pounds lighter. Any other recoding that I can do to improve my car would be appreciated.
Thanks a million guys!
Tomas

I'm about to try recoding my tranny. Hope to experience some big difference. However, yesterday, it was my first time seeing a faulty code of P0703... so I'm a bit hesitated to do anything now.
1 Fault Found:

There're like over 100 of them, just be sure to follow the Ross Tech tips on choosing what interface style suits you. I think PaulW, Tozo, AlwaysOvercharged, and many others have posted some good info here too, for all sorts of mods you can do with it.
Here's just a quick link to the "blue USB style" that I got:

... if I pressed the brake pedal right before I click "02-Auto Trans" then that code won't show up at all.
I'm getting addicted to recode stuff on this car!!! Just recode to 00011 today, went for a 20-minute drive to the park, didn't drive hard as bringing wife & 2-yr-old, but I felt it smoother than ever.
I can't wait to take my A8Q on some real testing soon! Thanks to all the experts on this forum exploring about the D2!

This might sound like just another story Audi beating the crap out of a BMW... but I want to highlight the fact that I was driving my 97 A8Q with 155K miles, leaving a very new BMW 745Li in shame.
Real life story happened today, during the 4th trip I made after recoding my tranny to 00011; it is totally like steroid and/or confidence boost on my driving...
That BMW driver was most likely talking on cell or just day-dreaming as he didn't go after light turned green. Initially, I don't want people to feel like sh*t during holiday season by being honked at. Well, I gave him some good 3 seconds, horn I pressed. He "woke up" and started to wanna drive away from the shameful site as quickly as he could...
With the 1-lane road a bit wet, I could at best stick quite close to him but not too close thinking he might wanna pull a hard-braking trick to cost me a fortune! Anyway, we were spiriting down a good 3-mile at 55+ on a 40mph speed limit... The road opens up to 2 lanes, while getting a bit more curvey. I accelled strongly like I really meant to pass him, with the more responsive tranny-engine relationship. The next thing I knew I was at 70+ still with great control and the BMW was in my rear view mirror "in the mist."
I consider this one more victory to the AWD D2 owners board, as I was technically outclassed by a much newer and supposedly beefier BMW. Kudos to the little shower earlier in the day, else that BMW might go crazy and come right back (if he can control his horses). I'd like to take on such challenge but I wouldn't wanna go for too much more than 70-80 on a curvey local 2-lane road (unless I'm late to the airport or so).

a 2-yr-old often falls asleep in the car. My wife and I used to let the windows down and let him sleep more while we transfer the grocery and stuff. Eventually, I had to get back in the driver seat, put my keys back, and roll up windows. Now, it's all within a touch of a button! VAG-COM rocks!! Even the free version ![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I still have yet to see if there's way around clearing the service reminder on the shareware rather than needing to pay for the full version. Any answers?

I just got my ebay vag com today, but I'm not sure which software to install with it.
WindowsXP wouldnt recognize it without the drivers from the little CD it came with- and I also installed Vag com 4.11 (i think) from that CD. But then the software couldnt find the cable on any of the COM ports.
Did you install any drivers or any software besides the shareware VagCom software?
Thanks!
