04 A8 Snow tires and wheels to replace 19's?

by the way, narower tires work better in the winter, they sink down through the snow better and grab the road where wide ones float on top of snow and therefore aren't so good for snow covered roads. and of course the only thing better then studs for ice is chains, but I don't see an audi with chains working too well.

I plan to get the Nokian Hakka's for my 1997 A8. I had them on my 1990 V8 and you could almost plow the road.
What size did you go down to and still fit on the factory wheels?

a wide tread is much less of a penalty that it used to be. With the 245/45-18 Pirelli 210 Snowsports on my S8, I'm limited by ground clearence more than anything else.

They are great. I used the Hakka 2 235/50-18's last winter, works wonders in most winter conditions.
But they are studded you know...
