Default 04 A8L satellite radio

Has anyone ordered or had installed XM satellite radio in their 2004 A8L? Apparently you can order it or it may be available at dealers. According to everything I've been able to ascertain, XM is better than sirius primarily due to financial strength of XM. Comments?

XM is in better financial shape, and I understand that they have more stations.

Default docmusolf and I are both big XM fans.

I copied his installation.

Even though some of their stations are commercial, it's not bad at all. Nothing like a Clear Channel music station, which is unlistenable. And take a look at their channel lineup - you may find that your likely favorite channels are non-commercial. Mine are: Deep Tracks at XM40 and Bluesville at XM74.

Default XM Radio converter for '04 A8L: "Call back in a few months".

I spoke with my dealer's parts department yesterday, 11/7/03. He was able after considerable searching, to locate the part number for the XM converter for the '04 A8L. He said that there is no availability, and suggested that I try back "in a few months".

I am not sure how much that I can trust his opinion about avialability, since there have been some rumors (some from this site) that it will be avialable "real soon now". But, there have been, so far, no confirmed sigthings of this much desired product.

Another thing that made me doubt the parts department "spokesman" was his expectation that the XM converter would be a user-installed option, and would not require any service department involvement at all. When I asked him about how a user installation would program the MMI, he backed off from his description.

I have always had one philosophy in life, and in the line of work that I do (medicine), it has always served me well. I believe that people respect you more if you tell them, " I don't know", than when you give them a B.S. answer (and I don't mean- Bachelor of Science). Unfortunately, the above philosophy does not carry over to many of the automotive service and parts establishments that I have dealt with in the past. If they don't know the answer, either they should try to find out the anwer from someone who does know, or admit that they can't help you.

Default Thanks everyone for the input

Thanks for the input. The recent Audi collection catalog had the satelite receivers so I know they are close to being available.

S4 vs. A8L. Wouldn't that be "Downsizing" ?? (in a nice way)

I spoke to my Audi Advocate yesterday and was told that the XM Radio option was a plug in and would be available for the A8L around Christmas.
