I've lurked on the board for some time but haven't posted. I feel compelled to share our recent experience.
Last Saturday afternoon my wife and I were traveling west bound on interstate 40, 130 miles west of Albuquerque, New Mexico in our new A8L. We left the day before with 700 miles on the odometer planning a two week driving trip from our home in eastern Iowa to LA and back. It was 4:30PM and we were cruising along with the cruise set at 85. We were traveling in the left lane and had just passed a car on our right when I noticed some dust coming up from the median. The next thing I saw was a car coming at us in our lane, not more than 50 feet away. There was no time to brake, but I swerved to the right as the vehicle struck our A8 directly on the rear wheel and quarter panel. The car resonded flawlessly. I am convinced that without the technology of stability control and all wheel drive we would have lost control and likely would be a highway statistic. Our Audi stayed in the right westbound lane and I was able to pull onhto the shoulder and stop. No one was injured. We called OnStar and the response was incredible. The OnStar rep (Amber) notified the State Police and connected us with Audi Assurance who arranged for a certified flatbed tow truck to transport us and our damaged vehicle back to the Audi Dealer in Albuquerque. The tow truck arrived within 30 minutes. He helped us arrange for a rental car and even drove us to the airport to pick it up. Audi is taking charge of the repair process and will transport the vehicle back to us in Iowa. There aren't enough adjectives to describe the way we have been treated so far. My wife and I are convinced that had we been driving a lesser car we both would be dead. Often complaints are aired on this board so I wanted to compliment Audi and the new A8.

All I can say is "Wow, what a story" and I am glad you were here to tell it. I have never owned an Audi but have heard about the numerous safety features onboard. I appreciate your post in two ways 1) When I take delivery of mine, I will have the confidence of your story in mind and more importantly 2) You and your family survived to once again drive your car. Best wishes.

The main reason I purchased 2 A8's in the past 6 years...similar story...hopefully others will see the A8 for what it is today and has been since it's release.
