Before going back to the dealer for the forth time, I was wondering if anyone has had problems with the mute function. The manual says to briefly push the volume ****, but no matter how short or long I hold down the ****, the system turns off and the screen closes. Even tapping it quickly shuts it down.

Also, I cannot get the check button to work; I think the manual says it works when moving over 3 mph or something like that. I've tried while idling, moving, and with the engine off in the ACC mode, but nothing happens.

My A8 is an early production, (in the 700's). I bought it as a dealer demo with 4000 miles and besides the standard occasional problems, (headlamp error, fuel door error, flat tire error, etc.....), everything is fine.

My mute function works fine-- just tap it and the sound goes off. I have to hold for a second or two and then the MMI screen dissappears. Serial 8170 2004 A8L

Didn't notice until recently. I've been too lazy to read the manual, so I figured I just didn't know how it worked. Now, 6 months after buying the car, I'm checking the book and can't get some stuff to work. Funny, I've never had to check a manual for any other car I've owned before this, foreign or domestic.
