131,000 miles, the transmission is shot and out of the car totally. Looking for advice on how much the car is worth. Thanks!

I am actually going to look at it this evening. They want $2500 for it.

The question I should be asking.... Is it possible to rebuild one of these transmissions yourself? I have done a couple before (Chrysler, Mazda....... but nothing newer than a 1997), but I am afraid an Audi may be a whole new ballgame. Any advice? I am from South Dakota therefore extremely cheap...I mean thrifty. If I can do it myself I can save a ton of money.
Of course I don't actually know what was wrong with the transmission and probably won't until I tear into it.

but shipping is a bitch...these things are FREAKIN huge! definitely a two man job to get it in and out. A full rebuild will run you about $4-5K from a reputable shop. Honestly, for that kind of trouble, there is a really nice looking silver 98 on ebay right now with a BIN of $6999 in Staten Island with a NEW tranny and 109K on the clock. if you could get this car for say 2K IF its in great condition otherwise, might be worth it...these trannys are nasty.
