Hello-
I recently purchased an 1998 A8. I have always changed my own oil, and would like to continue to do so on the A8. Does anyone have experience with the NAPA gold oil filters for the A8? I have used them on my other cars with success. They are about half the price of the Audi OEM filter.
Also is there anything tricky about changing the oil?
Thanks

I don't know if NAPA has these.
No big deal changing your oil, make sure you have a LARGE catch pan, there is 8 quarts in there.
It is easiest to jack up your front end, remove the belly pan (plastic) then drain the oil, remove filter and reinstall.
I got my filters from these guys on ebay, set of 4 is about $37 with shipping, Wendy also sells them on ebay.<ul><li><a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2441537703&cat egory=33661">http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2441537703&cat egory=33661</a</li></ul>

I just checked their site. It sells for $18.79. Check out the url below.
I was surprised.<ul><li><a href="http://www.napaonline.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ExecMacro/NAPAonline/search_results_product_detail.d2w/report?prrfnbr=15518321&prmenbr=5806&usrco mmgrpid=25454683">http://www.napaonline.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ExecMacro/NAPAonline

It's pretty impressive for A8 parts.<ul><li><a href="http://www.ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/pagebuild_v2.cgi?make=Audi&engine=4.2&mode l=A8&submodel=Quattro&category=Maintenance ">A8 oil filters towards the bottom, here.</a></li></ul>

once for an APR "chip day" when I was working in Akron. They have a small retail counter and a few garage bays where they spend most of their time on working on the A4/S4. I never bought anything from them, but I enjoyed seeing a bunch of heavily modified Audi's. I was the only A8/S8 there.
