Default 1998 A8 4.2L oil filters

Hello-

I recently purchased an 1998 A8. I have always changed my own oil, and would like to continue to do so on the A8. Does anyone have experience with the NAPA gold oil filters for the A8? I have used them on my other cars with success. They are about half the price of the Audi OEM filter.

Also is there anything tricky about changing the oil?

Thanks

Default I don't know, but does NAPA really have filters for the A8?

<center><img src="http://www.users.qwest.net/~eas1/077198563.jpg"></center><p>Here's a picture of the filter kit, comes with the paper filter, o-ring for the housing, and three metal o-rings for the filter housing (needs 2) and the drain pan (needs one).

I don't know if NAPA has these.

No big deal changing your oil, make sure you have a LARGE catch pan, there is 8 quarts in there.

It is easiest to jack up your front end, remove the belly pan (plastic) then drain the oil, remove filter and reinstall.

I got my filters from these guys on ebay, set of 4 is about $37 with shipping, Wendy also sells them on ebay.<ul><li><a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&amp;item=2441537703&amp;cat egory=33661">http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&amp;item=2441537703&amp;cat egory=33661</a</li></ul>

I just checked their site. It sells for $18.79. Check out the url below.

I was surprised.<ul><li><a href="http://www.napaonline.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ExecMacro/NAPAonline/search_results_product_detail.d2w/report?prrfnbr=15518321&amp;prmenbr=5806&amp;usrco mmgrpid=25454683">http://www.napaonline.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ExecMacro/NAPAonline

Default Anyone ever dealt with ECS Tuning? They have them on their web site.

It's pretty impressive for A8 parts.<ul><li><a href="http://www.ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/pagebuild_v2.cgi?make=Audi&amp;engine=4.2&amp;mode l=A8&amp;submodel=Quattro&amp;category=Maintenance ">A8 oil filters towards the bottom, here.</a></li></ul>

Default I stopped by ECS ...

once for an APR "chip day" when I was working in Akron. They have a small retail counter and a few garage bays where they spend most of their time on working on the A4/S4. I never bought anything from them, but I enjoyed seeing a bunch of heavily modified Audi's. I was the only A8/S8 there.

Default FYI

I asked about ECS over on AWOT, and got a lot of favorable responses. I'm probably going to order some slotted rotors and Mintex pads from them.
