1999 A8 battery doesn't keep charge

Hi my 1999 a8 d2 4.2 I have to boost it each time to start. And after starting or driving within 10 minutes the car dies. And the check engine light flashes. Can anyone help me as to what is wrong with it. Thanks.

Bad battery? I just solved a CEL and dead battery on my Allroad by replacing the 7-year-old battery.

Could also be the alternator, or just the regulator or even just the brushes. A standard test of the charging system would be the next step.

Sounds like either a terrible battery or an alternator. It's obviously not making enough juice to either charge the battery or keep the car running.
