1999 A8 Quattro Timing Belt Replacement... What Mileage?

just saw the same thing happen on a friends 02 A4
The woodruff key broke and spun the camshaft, bending valves... the interesting thing though is that the cam bolt was as tight as it should be... So I'm wondering if there was internal resistance in the motor, detonation, or otherwise... He was quoted 6000 for the repair. I told him I'd do it for $2500 if the turbo didn't need replacing.
