This weekend I am also planning to change the rear bearing. Is it really needed to press out the bearing? I have also seen some fokes just hammer it out while it is attached to the car :

Hi Tommygogh, I am not sure yet, I am getting the impression that the pre facelift which could have the bearing pressed into the suspension arm where on later models the bearing is mainly held by 4 bolts. The suggestion is the pre facelift which my 1999 model is could be more difficult. Unfortunately this is yet another weekend where I just wont have time to spend on the car. So I will be very interested to hear what you find and how you get on. I guess my first question would be what year is your car and if prefacelift was it a 4 bolt bearing or press fit type. Good luck with yours.

I will let you know!
my Audi is also from 1999, however it is a facelift model and I am sure it is hold on by 4 bolts. The pre-facelift is indeed more difficult as it needs to be pressed out. However I have also read that the facelift models can be really stuck and also need to be pressed out
