I have a 2000 A8 4.2 5 spd auto with 160,000 mi. The transmission was rebuilt by AAMCO about 2 years ago. I was not really happy with the rebuild and it has recently been having some problems right after the warranty on the rebuild is up.

There is fluid leaking out of the vent on the top of the tranny. There is also some Torque Converter chatter when shifting at low gears at a low RPM. The RPMS also waiver at around 1500 RPMs by about 200RPMs +/-. Dont know if that is a result of the tranny problem or not.

The major problem I am having now is once the car warms up it is missing shifts and then banging into gear. Ill accelerate in first and the engine will disengage from first, but wont find second. The RPMs increase and then in slams into second gear. It also happens from second to third.

Has anyone experienced anything similar or know what is wrong? Thanks for the help.

Sorry to hear about your problems, but I would not trust AAMCO to make me a sandwich, let alone rebuild a transmission.

Sounds like you need Tozo. Seriously he's an a8/s8 transmission guru.
