Default That's the low end.....but A8's are the best unknown deal going

If you haven't driven an A8, you should.

Buy a facelift model ('00 and newer) for 25K and you could do the following:

Wheels/tires - as much as you want to spend, but you'd have forged wheels for winter using stock 17" wheels

H&R suspension - $1500

Exhaust - $1500

Nav Plus system - $1300 (drops right in the facelift models)

Big brake kit - $2500

And you would have one hell of a great looking car for less than $35K that nobody else has. And it won't vibrate.... ;-)

Or get a used S8 for the low end $38K, could easily find one in the low 40's.

You should drive one....the 00's are especially soft, but with H&R's they are amazing cars!

Default I paid about $35k for a certified 2000 A8L 4.2 w/ 40,000 miles a year ago

I wanted a certified car and my dealer went out and purchased it for me (without me having to make a commitment to actually buy it).

They got me an A8L with all options except Parktronic and I ended up paying a little below $35,000 for a 2000 A8L almost exactly a year ago. At the time, you could get them on Ebay for around $28,000 without the certification.

What sweetened the deal for me was that my dealership is GREAT (Roger Beasly Audi in Austin, TX) and I know they will take great care of me. They also offered a very good deal on financing/leasing the car.

I would use Ebay to check out what A8's are moving for. I would think low $20,000's for higher mileage ones, and maybe $25,000 for lower mileage ones. I wouldn't pay over $28,000 for a certified 2000.

Paul,

Is the NAV kit really a drop in for a 2000? I've looked at your site and since I'm not much of a wiring guy I found it a little daunting.

Also, I noticed the H&R link on your site isn't active, can you explain (just generally) how big a job that one is?

Well, it's not just a drop in....the wiring is the hard part....but the unit just goes in where the radio was, so no mechanical modifications.

H&R's is a 6-8 hour job to do yourself.....if you're good, 4-5 hours.

Two of the best mods.....actually, can't really think of any mods I would rather not have.....
