I will be looking at that low mileage (21,000) '00 A8 again tomorrow, to make a final decision whether to take on trade for A6 Avant, or not. I would like to ask some general questions
For any '00 owners-any specific problem areas for this year? I have seen a number of mentions about brakes being an issue?
What changes were effected by Audi from 00 to 01 model?
Does the 00 have the same 36 month/50k mi. OEM warranty as other cars in the Audi line from that year?
Overall, what kind of car does the A8 shape up to be, as it get's older. Holds it own within reason, or do a lot of little nitpicking problems start to develop with the various creature-comfort systems that are on board? How well do the major mechanicals and suspension components do, over time? Thanks.

Had an 99 and no major problems except for a leaking fuletank/filler hose connection. Apparently it is problem but will be fixed by the dealer as it is a safety related item. I returned mine at the end of its lease and did not have it fixed. Not a problem unless you 'over' fill the tank. Only noticed it when it was in the garage. Never saw a leak on the floor. You should probably have a look at the top of the tank, where it connects to the filler hose to see if there is any sign of leaks.

21K miles and loving every one.
An occasional minor rattle in the sunroof that usually goes away after you open and close it a few times -- more often when the outside is about 20 degrees (F) above the inside.
An occasional "ticking" sound in the dash when decelerating -- usually when the AC has been running.
Chrome trim, especially around the rear bumper, gets "milky" -- $400 to replace?!?!?

I suppose that's no surprise about the chrome trim. Manufacturers do us no favors putting at stuff on-looks good only for the short term.
