My 00 A8's transmission is shifting slowly into, and then banging into reverse. Otherwise, there seem to be no problems. Is this a sealed unit or can the fluid be changed? Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Lana

are the two culprits that come to mind.
The first one means a transmission rebuild, the second is an easier fix.
How many miles on your car?
Are there any loud, unusual noises when you first start the car in the morning? (low fluid - pump cavitating)
The transmissions have no dipstick. There are many posts about A8 transmissions on this site. Do a search, sit down and enjoy!
