Hello Everyone, I am hoping someone can help me out with this. I have been a long time Audi Fan and have recently moved to Europe. I have found a 2001 Audi A8 W12 with 84km (54k miles) for sale for a very reasonable amount. After reading all the issues regarding the transmission failures I was wondering if the W12 uses a stronger transmission compared to the V8 model?
I have gone through the A8 used car inspection guide, but could not find any resources regarding the W12. Any help/ references out there?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Must be a Euro only spec, I don't think they were available to US market in '01 but I maybe wrong. Can you read the tranny tag number?

The 6,0 W12 A8 D2 runs the same ZF5HP24 tranny as the S8, and is not more robust.

Less documented failures, simply because the W12 was not sold or produced in the same volume as the V8's.

Correct, the W12 debuted in the US in the 2005 D3 and used (as in all D3's) the MUCH more dependable ZF6HP26 transmission.
