But...would this happen to be the black one at "Exotic Motors" in Rolling Meadows, Ill ?
If so, they've got a few things to explain to you.

Looked at it (photos) on Autotrader.com.
It's got a check engine light on (with engine running in the photo)...could be a cheap repair, but could be something expensive, too. If it's off when you drive it, it could have been erased temporarily...2 driving cycles will turn it back on. They need to show you a code reader hooked to it to prove what caused it...and/or it has been corrected, not just hidden by erasing.
The trunk lid looks off in fitment (not normal), unless it was partially open in photo.
Looks like the radio display is partially out..."AM" is only partially showing in the photo.
They list the motor as a 32V, instead of 40V, which just makes them look stupid.
Not a big deal, but it's missing the nav **** and the front "S8" badge.

You know after you said that I did notice the MSG light in photo but not test drive. Do you think they would have the correct code reader.if not should I move on. I did test drive the other listed at world class motor for 10k.its also missing nave button.it has 106k on the dash. It drove and shifted well.they claim it was one owner. They knocked 2000 off the price if I had purchased it that day. I told them I had one more to look at. The exotic dealer.something tell me the 106 might be a better car.just don't know for sure.

My main concern would be the CEL. If you test drive it again and no CEL, put it through it's paces (run the rpms up)...shut it off and restart at least once and drive it lively again. If the CEL doesn't come in 2 or more restarts, it's probably been corrected.
Take a good look at the trunk too..open and close...lines and tail lights should line up...if not, ask why...have em check latch, hinges and bumper stops.
The only deal breaker, esp if price comes down a little, would be CEL caused by something like a cam adjuster code (expensive) or a trans code, like torque converter clutch performance.
If it's an 02 sensor code, I would want at least a couple hundred $$ off for that.
I think it's worth looking at this S8 again...rare to find an '01 with such low miles.
