I tried it on my 1999 A8. I used a K&N high flow cone filter, a few hard elbows, high quality clamps and some flexible hose. Despite my expertise and secure placement of the mass airflow sensor near the throttle valve, the check engine light came on repeatedly. I couldn't figure it out. I never got the car to the track to see if there really was any power increase but the acoustical thrill was worth it. You could hear a shift in tone as the intake and cams changed modes.

I converted my 98 A8 over to the complete S8 intake system. That included new intake runners, airbox and exit runner. Works great and sounds much throatier. I don't know if I would recommend it, however. Cost was not insignificant, +$200 and you can barely feel the difference. I got the parts while I was in Germany.
