I have an opportunity to buy a 2001 S8 with 48,000 miles. The car just had a new engine put in buy Audi. It comes with a 12,0000 / 12 month on the Engine. I can get the car for around $35,000. Should I be concerned about the fact that it had to have a new engine put in, or is this a good opportunity because of the new engine?

a new, warranted engine is fine. I have to believe that any problems that might show up with this engine(I dont know why it would necessarily have any)would take place within the first year.

it might be worthwhile.
I actually would feel better with a new engine in a car with 48K miles, because many cars don't have a good oil change history. I'd prefer to start fresh, with a new engine, and change the oil at 1200 miles, and then every 3000, etc, and use Mobil 1, etc, etc.
Does this car itself have Audi's Assured warranty?
Or is the car itself still within the first four years from the "in-service" date? If so, have the car examined closely, and have anything needing repair done under Audi's original 4/50 warranty before you hit 50K miles or hit the 4-yr date (which runs from the "in-service" date, meaning when the car was purchased).

I haven't heard of any engine problems with S8's; it's be interesting to know what happened to the one you've found.<ul><li><a href="http://www.luxurymotors.com/inventory_detailed.php?id=M-21712&nhs=50&make=&model=&ext_colo r=&stockno=&eyear=2005&syear=1950& eprice=&sprice=&keywords=&location=&am p;type=&ob=mk&desc=

Thanks for your input! No Audi Assured Warranty but it falls into Factory Warranty for another 2000 miles. I'm not purchasing from an Audi Dealer so I need to find out if I can still get an AAW. Do you know?
Thanks again!

I know the person selling the car. A friend and also a non Audi Dealer. He has had the car for 3 months. Bought it at auction. In fact I drove it prior to the engine problem. Very Nice! I'm told the problem occured after the oil was changed. It's thought that not enough oil replaced. 5 quarts instead of 8? Do you think that could cause the problem?
Thanks for your reply!

You'll have to buy it from an Audi dealer. There are evidently several levels you can buy. I had one dealer quote me $3K-$5K for Audi's warranty if I bought a 2001 S8 somewhere else, and then wanted the Audi warranty. They said A4's and A6's would be cheaper.
I think the car has to still be under the original Audi warranty, and have less than 50K miles.
