Not that they are the experts, by any measure, but noted that MSN Autos put the new A8L on their site today with their 'price and configure' tool.
http://www.autos.msn.com/autopricer/Tool.aspx?Year=2004&Make=Audi&Model=A8& ;idmodel=10746&Trim=L
Interestingly, under the option list, they show soft-close doors, tiptronic steering wheel paddles, sport suspension, and voice recognition (along with the now well-known adaptive cruise control) as delayed but eventually available options...anyone else heard similar or able to confirm? Iwas told all of these things except cruise would not make it on the '04 model year at all.

Maybe these particular options gave a few customer problems in Europe and so Audi will delay them in N. America. It is my hope that Audi treats us this way.
More likely the delay is for marketing reasons.
The basic car is great. The few bell and whistles that are delayed won't make a difference to the enjoyment.
I am guessing Active Criuse control can be dealer installed (wishfull thinking, but maybe the radar housing is plug-and-play, doesn't hurt to ask Audi).
One MMI feature that is deactivated for N. America is the "log in as USER 1 through 4". Maybe this is only used with the finger print memory system? But I thought in Germany it worked with the standard remote keys.... Again this is just my wishfull thinking, it would be great customer relations for Audi to offer a software update in six month to activate this and other features. But more likely the marketing guys wouldn't aggree.
MBDefector: I saw 2 loaded A8 in Germany in December. I saw the smart key with finger print memory option (smart key will be available separately). I didn't like the long black button on the exterior door handles -- it is not hidden under the handle like on the S-class. As for it being a dealer option, I think it would be price prohibitive.

Now the wait begins for Aug delivery...so I have to keep looking at the Northern Blue pics on Velocity Journal like this one....
