Default 245 45 18 alternative

I have Chrome AT wheels that comes with 245 45 18 Continental Touring tires . I was wondering:

What is "offset" ? Some people talked about it. +30, +40 ... How important are they ?

What other sizes of tires can I use ?

Locally, some guy is selling 2 Dunlop SP9000 and 2 Pirelli P-Zero, used . Can I use mismatched tires on a quattro system ?

Default Nexen N3000

Has anyone used Nexen N3000 ?

Seems to have very good rating. 360 AA A.
It's cheap compared to other tires.

Default so you need tires? you CAN use mismatched BRANDS...but you cant mix match sizes.

Offset relates to WHEELS. im sure someone else can shed more light on the subject tho.

If you NEED 245/45/18s i have a set of Michelin Pilot Sports for sale. all are 70% new and are in great condition. email me if you are interested.

Default Re: so you need tires?

Well, I posted on your thread that I found a place in San Diego that sells used tires for $75-95 for two. I might buy Nexen N3000 brand new for $300 for 4. Thanks though.

Default Re: Offset

Offset is the distance between the centerline of the wheel and it's mounting flange face. Combined with the wheel width, it determines whether or not the tire will rub fenders, suspension elements, or the brake caliper. OE 18x8 Audi wheels have a 48mm offset; with an 8" wheel width, anything from 35-48mm will fit with room to spare.

Actually different brands often have very different rollout for a given size. Even different models

Default Sold three or four sets of those have had no negative feed back for ride from our customers.

They look pretty good in person, I don't know who make them. The people who bought those tires were not looking for quality or performance but price was the determining factor.

Default Re: Nexen N3000

I just got a set of Nexen N3000's on my A8L last week. I was looking for some good-but-cheap tires to replace my LOUD Yokohamas.

So far, I have no complaints. They're smooth, cheap, and QUIET. For a commuter like me, it makes the drive much nicer and quieter.
