4.2 Engine Rattle/Rapping Noise At Start Up
I recently purchased a used 02 A-8 with only 48K and I find after sitting over night at start up in the am there is a brief rattle/rapping that goes away after about 2 secs. or when it seems that oil pressure is up.
I am concerned this maybe damaging the motor or could effect in the future. I still have about 2K left on the warranty from the dealer. I believe that I read on this forum that there is a TBA? bulletin Please advise thank you

I read the TSB (and might even have it somewhere). It's specifically the cam tensioners
filling with oil that you hear. Both of mine do it if the sit for more than a couple of days. TSB says "normal", no action required.

OK, so this I guess is what you get in a close tolerance engine with 40 valves. The torque curve in this engine is amazing although!!
