Just picked up my 01 short wheel base up from the dealer and its 40k mile service (at 38K actual). When the service advistor was going over what they did, I noticed that the recipt indicated 8.3 quarts of GTX20w50. When I ask him if this was the proper oil, he indicated "that is what we use in all Audi's, except the 1.8's, where we use synthetic." I usually run synthetic anyway and had planed to drive it about 2k till it hit 40k exactly and change it out, but now I'll need to swap it out ASAP.

Has Audi changed their recomendations or is this a typical dealer service group that is smoking dope???

Makes me wonder what else was done or not done during is brief stay.

I know they switched to synthetic for the '04A8's, not sure if prior to 2004 though.

I ask many of the probing quesitons about the behavior of the car - transmission hunting, car pulling etc. All I got was transmission normal, and a air pressure adjustment in the tires.

Makes me wonder what they really did?

GTX is great oil and living in cal. you could use all year round no problem. john

But if you did not specify what type of oil to use....that's really your bad....the dealer isn't going to help you.

Here is the recommended viscosity for the 32 valve motors.....I would not be putting 20W50 in my car.....I run 0W30 in the winter and 0W40 (Mobil 1) in the summer.
